Trauma Centers

I. Purpose
This policy establishes the definition and designated trauma centers for Alameda County.
II. Definitions
A Trauma Center is a licensed acute care hospital designated by the Alameda County EMS
Agency as such and has the following:
a. A written contractual agreement with the Alameda County EMS Agency.
b. Accreditation by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.
2. Designated Trauma Centers
a. Adult Trauma Centers:
i. Wilma Chan Highland Hospital is the designated trauma center for North
County
ii. Eden Medical Center is the designated trauma center for South/East County
b. Pediatric Trauma Center:
i. UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital
