HomeMy WebLinkAboutalco-ems-memo-regional-medical-center-trauma-services-08-12-2024 MEMORANDUM DATE: August 12, 2024 TO: All Alameda County EMS System Partners and Clinicians FROM: Alameda County EMS Agency SUBJECT: Removal of Trauma Center Designation for Regional Medical Center Effective August 12, 2024, Regional Medical Center of San Jose (RMC) will no longer be designated as a trauma center by Alameda County EMS. This change comes as a result of RMC's impending loss of its American College of Surgeons (ACS) verification as an Adult Level II trauma center due to a reduction in services; maintenance of which is a requirement for continued designation by the Alameda County EMS Agency. Alameda County EMS is aware of RMC's plans to pursue ACS Level III verification, however that effort will not qualify them for re-designation as a trauma center in Alameda County. To ensure that all patients within Alameda County have equitable and timely access to necessary time-sensitive trauma services, the Alameda County EMS Agency requires that all designated trauma centers maintain a Level II or higher verification. Therefore, as of August 12, 2024, the following facilities are the only trauma centers designated as receiving facility for trauma by the Alameda County EMS Agency: In-County Designated Trauma Centers: Facility Name Location Level of Services Wilma Chan Highland Hospital Oakland, CA Adult Level I UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland Oakland, CA Pediatric Level I Eden Medical Center Castro Valley, CA Adult Level II Washington Hospital Fremont, CA Adult Level II* *Provisionally designated pending initial ACS verification Out-of-County Designated Trauma Centers: Facility Name Location Level of Services Santa Clara Valley Medical Center San Jose, CA Adult Level I Stanford Health Care Palo Alto, CA Adult Level I Zuckerberg San Francisco General San Francisco, CA Adult Level I San Joaquin General French Camp, CA Adult Level II John Muir Medical Center Walnut Creek, CA Adult Level II Please ensure that all field clinicians are aware of this change so that they can make appropriate destination decisions for our patients requiring trauma activation and care.
