Low and No-Cost Transportation Options in Alameda County
Rides for Health Care Appointments
Most medical clinics have options for transportation to and from health care appointments:
• To get a ride to an appointment, ask your doctor or clinic (one week in advance) to arrange it for you.
• You may be eligible for a taxi ride, taxi vouchers, bus tickets, or to get paid back for miles that you or a friend
drive to a health care appointment.
TIP: You must have a phone for taxi rides so that your clinic and the taxi company can contact you.
TIP: You are allowed to bring a friend, caretaker, or a pet with you in some cases.
Public Transportation
AC Transit Regional Transit Connect (RTC) Discount Card Program:
• You can get a 50% discount on bus tickets, bus passes, and BART fares if you are a senior needing an
attendant, a minor, or if you have a qualifying physical or mental disability.
• Apply at any AC Transit Office with your Medi-Care card, VA card, or DMV disabled placard.
TIP: If you don’t have a Medi-Care card, VA card, or DMV disabled placard, pick up a Medical Certification form at
any AC Transit Office and bring it to your doctor.
Paratransit
Seniors and people with disabilities who can’t access regular public transportation can pay for door-to-door rides for
$4.00 each way.
• To use Paratransit, work with your doctor or clinic to fill out an application and arrange an eligibility interview.
TIP: Rides are shared with other passengers and may make multiple stops.
TIP: You must purchase vouchers in advance at AC Transit offices, as drivers do not accept cash.
