HOUSING COMMUNITY SUPPORTS
What are Housing Community Supports (HCS) and Why Does It Matter to You?
TALKING POINTS FOR PROVIDERS FOR INDIVIDUALS RECEIVING HCS SERVICES
Purpose of Housing Community Supports (HCS)
• Sometimes people are without stable housing and are unable to access providers and services
they need. Without the right providers and services, it is hard to get well and stay healthy.
• The goal of the Housing Community Support services is to help you find and keep housing.
Eligibility
• You may be eligible for Housing Community Supports
if:
o You are homeless or formerly homeless; AND
o Living in Alameda County; AND
o Participated in the Coordinated Entry process
There aren’t always enough service slots for everyone who is
eligible; Coordinated entry helps to prioritize people for HCS
services. A community supports service agency will let you
know if you are eligible for services.
Benefits
• The Housing Community Support services include Housing Deposits, Housing Tenancy and
Sustaining Services, and Housing Transition Navigation
• Housing Transition Navigation Services will help you obtain housing, including identifying and
resolving barriers to housing and searching for housing.
• Housing Deposits assist you with one-time move in expenses, such as security deposits, setup
fees or deposits for utilities and first and last months’ rent.
• Housing Tenancy and Sustaining Services include services such as education, training,
coaching, referrals to other resources and dispute resolution, with a goal of helping you
maintain safe and stable tenancy once housing is secured.
Cost
• The program is free; there is no cost to you to receive these services.
How do I enroll in or disenroll from Housing Community Supports?
• Your Housing Navigator or Case Manager can assist you to enroll in the program if you are
eligible.
• If you no longer want to be part of the program, you can let your Housing Navigator or Case
Manager know.
