Community College,also referred to as junior college, technical college, or city college •Are primarily two-year public institutions providing higher education and lower-level tertiary education, granting certificates, diplomas, and associate’s degrees. •Many also offer programs for vocational training, continuing, and adult education. Community college tuition is much cheaper than private and public four-year universities. •Many choose this route as it offers several benefits. •After graduating from community college, students can transfer to a four-year college or university needing just two to three years to complete a bachelor’s degree. •Before transferring, it is important to follow The Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC). •IGETC is a series of courses that California community college students can complete to satisfy freshman/sophomore level general education requirements. •Cost of Tuition & Other Expenses: ~ $3,500/year. •Per semester, tuition alone is $552 per 12 units or $46 per unit, If you’re a California resident. Paying for College FAFSA:Determine your eligibility for Federal grants and loans to help pay for college. *Some schools may require its completion. English Communication One course in English composition and one course in critical thinking/English composition. 2 courses 6 semester units or 8-10 quarter units 2. Mathematical Concepts and Quantitative Reasoning 1 course 3 semester units or 4-5 quarter units 3. Arts and Humanities Three courses with at least one from the arts and one from the humanities 3 courses 9 semester units or 12-15 quarter units 4. Social and Behavioral Sciences Three courses from at least two disciplines, or an interdisciplinary sequence 3 courses 9 semester units or 12-15 quarter units 5. Physical and Biological Sciences One physical science course and one biological science or course, at least one of which includes a laboratory 2 courses 7-9 semester units or 9-12 quarter units 6.
