Figure 2: Prevalence of HIV by Census Tract of Residence, Oakland and Surrounding Area, Year-End 2021 The city of Emeryville had the highest HIV prevalence within Alameda County, followed by Oakland, Ashland, and Hayward Acres. Among the Oakland neighborhoods, West Oakland, Downtown, and Chinatown had the highest HIV prevalence. Figure 3: New Diagnosis by Sex and Year, Alameda County, 2006-2021 • 160 people were newly diagnosed with HIV in 2020 and 199 in 2021 (24.4% increase). • The 24.4% increase in new HIV cases in 2021 from 2020 was likely due to increased access to HIV testing as the COVID-19 pandemic subsided. Among 5750 PLHIV in 2020: • 75.0% were in care as indicated by having one or more new lab result. • 44.9% were retained in care as indicated by two or more visits 90 or more days apart. • 67.6% of PLHIV had viral suppression (viral load under 200 copies/mL).
