Alameda County Public Health Department
Mold Resource list
During both rainy and dry seasons Alameda County Public Health Department receives
calls from residents complaining about mold in their apartments or homes. Mold can
result from a moisture problem such as a roof or plumbing leak.
Although neither Alameda County Public Health nor Environmental Health inspects for
residenal mold, there are steps that residents can take. The resources below are
designed primarily to assist county residents with rental or lease agreements. In either
case, you will need to alert your landlord to the moisture problem. If there is no
response, contact your city's building code enforcement office. Note: Code
enforcement inspects for moisture problems, not mold.
Because resolving a mold problem can be me-consuming and costly, we have included
tenant rights organizaons so residents can get legal advice on housing issues that
might arise from reporng mold.
As another resource we have included our Asthma Start program at (510) 383-5181.
This program works with the families of children with asthma, ages 18 and younger,
providing free, in-home assessments for asthma triggers and educaon about asthma
medicaons and warning signs.
