What is the Vision for the Healthy Smiles Program?
All children and adolescents who reside in Alameda County receive high quality dental
care regardless of insurance or immigration status.
What is the Healthy Smiles Program?
The Healthy Smiles Program has provided gap coverage for urgent dental needs for
families with children who are uninsured or underinsured since 2002. We assist families
with scheduling an appointment or refer them to a dentist for preventive care or dental
treatment needs at no cost. Office of Dental Health staff assess the urgency of the dental
need, the child’s insurance status, income requirements and the age of the child to
determine program eligibility. We refer families to Alameda County Health Insurance
Technicians for assistance with enrolling in medical and dental insurance or other county
services.
